Product Description: This Three Piece NSDAP Armband is a very nice piece, with great eye appeal. The body of this armband is made out of a high quality wool. The wool retains strong original color and most of the original surface nap. The front of the armband features a swastika emblem made of ribbed tape material, affixed to a ribbed white roundel. The long edges of the armband are finished with black machine stitching, while the short edges are closed in the back with simple hand stitching, likely done by the original wearer to fit this to his uniform sleeve. The top and bottom edges show stitch holes where the typical black stripes denoting an SS armband were once affixed. There are also visible signs of once having been sewn to a uniform. On the inside, this armband retains an original SS RZM paper tag. The tag features the round emblems of the SS and the RZM and a stamped maker marking, and shows no damage or issues. The armband is in excellent condition overall, with one moth nip and a little bit of moth tracking throughout. There are a couple of spots of very light staining. This Three Piece NSDAP Armband with desirable SS tag displays very well.
Historical Description: Nearly every military, civil, political, and paramilitary organization in existence during the Third Reich used armbands. Armbands were worn on military and civilian uniforms and also on civilian clothes, from suit jackets to work clothing. They were used to denote membership in organizations, to indicate a specific role or function of the bearer, and as insignia of rank. Many organizations would change the design of their armbands over time, which added to the variety produced. These were manufactured in countless variations, ranging from simple printed bands to elaborately hand-embroidered pieces of the highest quality. Some Nazi armbands were worn by all members of large organizations and were made by the millions. Others were intended for use at a specific time and place and were unique. Many types were made in very limited numbers. Some bore metal insignia or special identifiers that indicated the wearer’s rank, unit affiliation, or nationality. Armbands were sometimes but not always marked with ink stamps by the issuing authorities.
