Product Description:  An original Wool SS Armband – SS RZM Tag – Tunic Removed, presented as a strong and representative example displaying clear evidence of authentic period use. Constructed of red wool, the armband features a separately applied white ribbed roundel bearing a precisely formed black ribbed-fabric swastika, each element neatly machine-stitched to the body in the characteristic manner of regulation manufacture.

The upper and lower edges remain cleanly finished, while the ends are now separated, consistent with removal from a tunic. There is a small nick to the wool on the upper edge that doesn’t detract from the overall appeal.  The reverse lower portion retains loose threads and visible stitch holes from the original black edging typical of SS armbands. An SS RZM tag is present on the reverse, marked with maker code A4/275, further supporting its period production.

Despite expected signs of age and service, the exterior of this Wool SS Armband – SS RZM Tag – Tunic Removed retains strong coloration and excellent overall presentation, offering collectors a well-preserved example with evident period character and authentic construction.  Overall this armband rates as excellent + condition.

Historical Description: Nearly every military, civil, political, and paramilitary organization in existence during the Third Reich used armbands. Armbands were worn on military and civilian uniforms and also on civilian clothes, from suit jackets to work clothing. They were used to denote membership in organizations, to indicate a specific role or function of the bearer, and as insignia of rank. Many organizations would change the design of their armbands over time, which added to the variety produced. These were manufactured in countless variations, ranging from simple printed bands to elaborately hand-embroidered pieces of the highest quality. Some Nazi armbands were worn by all members of large organizations and were made by the millions. Others were intended for use at a specific time and place and were unique. Many types were made in very limited numbers. Some bore metal insignia or special identifiers that indicated the wearer’s rank, unit affiliation, or nationality. Armbands were sometimes but not always marked with ink stamps by the issuing authorities.
