Product Description: This unissued wool SS armband is a stunning example of a rare and highly desirable type. Constructed from high-quality red wool fabric, the armband shows no fading, damage, or wear, retaining its vibrant color and pristine condition. The roundel and swastika emblem are expertly crafted from multiple pieces of ribbed fabric, all factory-assembled with precise machine stitching. This armband features an original factory-applied SS RZM tag, marked with a “D” tax code and identifying the maker as A4/10. The tag is fully intact, showing only slight and expected age toning. Notably, this armband does not have the black stripes along the long edges. While some collectors suggest this variant was designed for wear on wool overcoats, the exact reason for the missing stripes remains uncertain. The short ends of the armband remain unsewn, indicating its unissued state. Overall, this piece is in outstanding, near mint condition, with only minimal signs of age. It would be extremely difficult to find an example in better condition. The Wool SS Armband is an excellent addition to any advanced collection.

Historical Description: Nearly every military, civil, political, and paramilitary organization in existence during the Third Reich used armbands. Armbands were worn on military and civilian uniforms and also on civilian clothes, from suit jackets to work clothing. They were used to denote membership in organizations, to indicate a specific role or function of the bearer, and as insignia of rank. Many organizations would change the design of their armbands over time, which added to the variety produced. These were manufactured in countless variations, ranging from simple printed bands to elaborately hand-embroidered pieces of the highest quality. Some Nazi armbands were worn by all members of large organizations and were made by the millions. Others were intended for use at a specific time and place and were unique. Many types were made in very limited numbers. Some bore metal insignia or special identifiers that indicated the wearer’s rank, unit affiliation, or nationality. Armbands were sometimes but not always marked with ink stamps by the issuing authorities.
