Product Description: This Waffen-SS Sleeve Edelweiss is an absolutely perfect example of this desirable piece of insignia worn by mountain troops of the Waffen-SS. This is an oval sleeve patch made of typical SS black badge cloth, adorned with the Edelweiss flower emblem of the Gebirgsjäger mountain units, machine embroidered in silver-gray thread with a yellow center. The Edelweiss is enclosed within a machine embroidered oval border. The embroidery is perfect, and the black wool shows no moth holes, soiling or other damage. This is an unissued piece, with no stitch holes and no sign of ever having been worn. The reverse of this Waffen-SS Sleeve Edelweiss has no backing, as is typical, and the bobbin thread of the embroidery is visible. This patch is textbook in all aspects, and rates an incredible mint condition, factory fresh. It would be impossible to upgrade.
Historical Description: The German SS Sleeve Edelweiss was worn by members of the SS Gebirgstruppen (Mountain Troops). All members of Waffen-SS mountain units were permitted to wear this patch. It was worn on the right sleeve of both the tunic and the great coat. The SS Sleeve Edelweiss is constructed of silvery/grey embroidered flower petals and dual leaves, and stem; with seven yellow stamen. Many of the surviving originals have been found in veteran lots from the U.S. 42nd and 45th Infantry Divisions, having been removed from stores found at Dachau following the liberation of the camp.
