Product Description: This is a really nice original example of a two pocket NSDAP political undershirt. It’s in barely worn condition. The shirt is made out of a brown twill cotton fabric. It’s a typical pullover type shirt, with a three button front placket, and turnback cuffs with button closures. The front of the shirt has two pleated breast pockets. The collar closure button is a four-hole brown plastic type, while all the other buttons are typical German pebbled shank type uniform buttons, with original brown paint. These pebbled buttons are affixed to the shirt using metal hardware, which would have allowed them to be removed for cleaning. The cuff closure buttons on each sleeve are connected with a steel ring. There is a size tag inside the collar, as well as some slight marks in the collar, presumably from wear. This desirable two pocket NSDAP political undershirt is complete and would be perfect for a mannequin, worn under a political tunic. It has no holes or damage, and rates as near mint.

Historical Description: NSDAP Political Leaders were entitled to wear a wide variety of uniforms and regalia. They had their own special uniforms, each with distinctive insignia denoting the wearer’s specific rank and level of leadership within the Nazi Party hierarchy. This insignia changed in pattern over the course of the Third Reich, creating a vast array of variations. These uniforms were of course complete with specific headgear, as well as all kinds of accessories and accoutrements, as was typical for Nazi-era regalia. Political leaders wore wide belts with distinctive gilt belt buckles adorned with the Nazi eagle and swastika emblem. They were authorized to carry special Walther PPK pistols, known as “honor weapons,” with Nazi insignia on the grips. NSDAP political uniforms and regalia were avidly sought-after by souvenir-hungry GIs as the war moved into Germany. Most of this regalia was destroyed as part of the denazification process; surviving pieces remain very desirable to collectors.
