Product Description: An original Three-Piece NSDAP Armband with intact RZM tag, offered here as a textbook example of period craftsmanship, exhibiting clear evidence of wear and exceptional visual character. Constructed from high-quality red polished cotton, the armband features a separately applied white polished cotton roundel with a precisely executed black polished cotton swastika, all neatly machine-stitched to the body. Both upper and lower edges are cleanly finished, with ends joined by machine stitching consistent with period production. The interior retains its original paper RZM tag, marked A4/41, confirming its authenticity.
This Three-Piece NSDAP Armband rates in excellent condition, with only minor flaws including a few tiny pinholes likely resulting from badges or stickpins added by a veteran who may have brought the piece home as a souvenir. The reverse shows minor tape residue from being mounted in an album or frame. Despite these minor marks of age, the exterior retains strong, vibrant coloration, making this a highly attractive and well-preserved example, exemplary for collectors seeking an authentic artifact of the period.
Historical Description: Nearly every military, civil, political, and paramilitary organization in existence during the Third Reich used armbands. Armbands were worn on military and civilian uniforms and also on civilian clothes, from suit jackets to work clothing. They were used to denote membership in organizations, to indicate a specific role or function of the bearer, and as insignia of rank. Many organizations would change the design of their armbands over time, which added to the variety produced. These were manufactured in countless variations, ranging from simple printed bands to elaborately hand-embroidered pieces of the highest quality. Some Nazi armbands were worn by all members of large organizations and were made by the millions. Others were intended for use at a specific time and place and were unique. Many types were made in very limited numbers. Some bore metal insignia or special identifiers that indicated the wearer’s rank, unit affiliation, or nationality. Armbands were sometimes but not always marked with ink stamps by the issuing authorities.
