Three Piece NSDAP Armband in Wool

Product Description: This Three Piece NSDAP Armband is a one-look original piece. This is the desirable, three piece wool version of this popular armband style, made of top quality materials. The body of the armband is made from a finely woven red wool fabric. The wool retains bright original color, but shows moth damage throughout, with many pinhead to pencil eraser sized nips and holes. The armband features a textbook ribbed white roundel with a silky feel, and a separate swastika made of two pieces of ribbed black fabric tape, all perfectly assembled with neat machine sewing. The white roundel shows only extremely slight age toning and is really very nice. The long edges of the armband are finished with red machine sewing. It is not sewn together in the back. Inside, this three piece NSDAP armband shows some adhesive residue in one area where the original paper RZM tag was affixed when it was made. Overall, this original armband remains in very good condition.

Armbands were worn on military and civilian uniforms and also on civilian clothes, from suit jackets to work clothing. They were used to denote membership in organizations, to indicate a specific role or function of the bearer, and as insignia of rank. Many organizations would change the design of their armbands over time, which added to the variety produced. These were manufactured in countless variations, ranging from simple printed bands to elaborately hand-embroidered pieces of the highest quality. Some Nazi armbands were worn by all members of large organizations and were made by the millions. Others were intended for use at a specific time and place and were unique. Many types were made in very limited numbers. Some bore metal insignia or special identifiers that indicated the wearer’s rank, unit affiliation, or nationality. Armbands were sometimes but not always marked with ink stamps by the issuing authorities.
