Product Description: A striking and well-preserved ensemble, this Steyr Schutzpolizei Uniform with Trousers presents an impressive, cohesive example of municipal police attire from the period. The field blouse is constructed with an eight-button front closure and a double metal hook at the collar. Four front pockets, two pleated upper and two flat lower, retain their crisp form. The sewn-in shoulder boards feature bullion thread edging, complemented by bullion-woven collar tabs. A finely applied green police sleeve eagle, bearing the Steyr city designation, is neatly stitched to the outer sleeve without penetrating the lining. The interior retains faded Ostmark Uniform and size stampings.

Overall condition is strong, with the tunic free from major defects; light moth tracking, primarily to the back, and small pinholes from previously mounted awards are noted. Measurements: 28 in. collar to hem; 21.5 in. across the chest; 18.5 in. across the shoulders; 24.5 in. sleeve length.

The accompanying trousers, stamped G. Assmann and dated 1940, display honest wear consistent with age. The rear adjustment strap lacks its original clasp and is presently secured by a safety pin. Measurements: approx. 36 in. waist; 39 in. overall length; 25.5 in. inseam. Minor loose threads are evident, though the fabric remains free of mothing or holes.

A well-matched and visually compelling Steyr Schutzpolizei Uniform with Trousers, notable for its completeness, authenticity, and strong display presence.

Historical Description: It is no exaggeration to state that most Germans in the Third Reich owned a uniform of some kind. Besides the millions of uniformed military service members, uniforms were worn by members of nearly all of the multitude of civil, political and paramilitary organizations that existed during Nazi Germany. These uniforms ranged from the finely tailored custom uniforms worn by high ranking political leaders and members of the diplomatic corps, to simple issue uniforms that were given to conscripts. There were simple work uniforms made of hard-wearing cloth, and elaborate outfits for dress and formal use, with organization-specific armbands, and branch and rank insignia. There were also field uniforms intended for wear on the battlefields by armed members of organizations that served as auxiliaries to the German armed forces. In the time before and during WWII, men and women, adults and children were all members of uniformed organizations.
