Product Description: A particularly fine and well-preserved SS Armband with RZM Cloth Tag, representing one of the most iconic and sought-after patterns of SS regalia. This regulation issue armband, worn by all ranks with both dress and service uniforms, is constructed of high-quality red wool of the typical plain weave type, retaining strong original color and texture. The fabric shows a pleasing nap overall, with minor mothing and small surface flaws consistent with age.
The front features a precisely executed ribbed white roundel bearing a multi-piece ribbed-fabric swastika, all machine-applied with textbook factory straight stitching. The white roundel shows only the faintest age toning, while the upper and lower edges are bordered with ribbed black tape, an unmistakable indicator of SS issue. The interior reveals a well-marked SS Armband with RZM Cloth Tag, designated “RZM 21/34,” along with visible bobbin stitching and a correctly joined rear seam.
A textbook example in every respect, exhibiting exceptional eye appeal and quality of manufacture. Condition rates as excellent.
Historical Description: Nearly every military, civil, political, and paramilitary organization in existence during the Third Reich used armbands. Armbands were worn on military and civilian uniforms and also on civilian clothes, from suit jackets to work clothing. They were used to denote membership in organizations, to indicate a specific role or function of the bearer, and as insignia of rank. Many organizations would change the design of their armbands over time, which added to the variety produced. These were manufactured in countless variations, ranging from simple printed bands to elaborately hand-embroidered pieces of the highest quality. Some Nazi armbands were worn by all members of large organizations and were made by the millions. Others were intended for use at a specific time and place and were unique. Many types were made in very limited numbers. Some bore metal insignia or special identifiers that indicated the wearer’s rank, unit affiliation, or nationality. Armbands were sometimes but not always marked with ink stamps by the issuing authorities.
