Product Description: An exceptionally fine Japanese-made Maschinenpistole 40 (MP 40) plug-fire replica, produced by the esteemed Model Gun Corporation (MGC), Nakata, and dating to 1968. Replica MGC Nakata Japan MP40 WWII German Model Gun 1968 Non Firing. Executed to a notably high standard, this example captures the weight, balance, and visual authority of the original German wartime submachine gun with remarkable fidelity.
Designed to operate with replica cartridges fitted with cap “plugs,” the model features a functioning replica bolt that detonates the caps and ejects the cartridges in a manner closely analogous to live fire operation. (The cartridge plugs and caps are not present.) The barrel bears the serial number 08491, while the reverse of the magazine is crisply marked “MP40 / MGC 68,” widely understood to denote the year of manufacture.
Condition is excellent overall. The metal surfaces retain much of their original finish, with honest wear consistent with handling and use, most evident around the cocking handle, along with light, attractive patination throughout. Mechanically, the piece feels robust and cycles correctly, conveying an authenticity of operation and presence that closely mirrors the original arm.
A highly evocative and collectible model, this Replica MGC Nakata Japan MP40 WWII German Model Gun 1968 Non Firing offers significant appeal to advanced collectors of historical replicas and to period reenactors seeking a visually and tactually convincing representation of one of the most iconic firearms of the Second World War.
Unloaded, practice, or dummy grenades, artillery shell casings, and similar ordnance items that have been rendered inert through BATF‑approved cuts or drilling—ensuring they cannot function as components of destructive devices—are not classified as NFA weapons. This example fully meets those compliance requirements and is offered strictly within the United States and available to states that are leggal. NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXPORT.
Historical Description: The Maschinenpistole 40 (MP40) is one of the most iconic firearms of the Second World War and a defining weapon of the German Wehrmacht. Developed by Heinrich Vollmer and introduced in 1940 as a refinement of the MP38, it was manufactured primarily by Erma Werke and Steyr-Daimler-Puch. Chambered in 9×19mm Parabellum and firing from an open bolt in fully automatic mode, the MP40 featured extensive use of stamped steel components, allowing for efficient mass production. Its folding metal stock and manageable rate of fire made it especially suited to mechanized infantry, paratroopers, and armored vehicle crews.
Widely issued across all branches of the German armed forces and deployed on every front, the MP40 gained a reputation for controllability and solid handling, though its 32-round magazine was sensitive to dirt and rough use. Frequently sought after by Allied troops as a battlefield trophy, the MP40’s distinctive silhouette and innovative construction left a lasting impact on later submachine gun designs. Today it remains one of the most recognizable and historically significant small arms of the 20th century.
