Product Description: This Reich Leiter einer Hauptstelle Armband is a choice and very desirable piece of insignia for a high level Nazi Party political leader. This piece was intended for wear by an official with the grade of “Leiter einer Haupstelle” at the highest, Reich level. The body of the armband is made from an extremely high quality, fine wool fabric, which retains original bright red color. The center of the front of the armband is adorned with a black tape swastika mounted on a white roundel. Both the swastika and the roundel are trimmed in gold cord, factory applied with machine stitching. The long edges of the armband feature woven trim with oak leaves executed in gold celleon wire, and the armband is piped with eye-catching golden rayon, for Reich level. The armband is not sewn together in the back, which was how these were issued; there is no indication that this example was ever actually worn. On the reverse, this Reich Leiter einer Hauptstelle Armband is complete with the original RZM paper tag, with a maker code. There is an ink stamp of an arrow with the word “oben” indicating which edge was to face up when the armband was worn. This very scarce and eye-catching armband rates an outstanding excellent plus condition.

Historical Description: Nearly every military, civil, political and paramilitary organization in existence during the Third Reich used armbands. Armbands were worn on military and civilian uniforms and also on civilian clothes, from suit jackets to work clothing. They were used to denote membership in organizations, to indicate a specific role or function of the bearer, and as insignia of rank. Many organizations would change the design of their armbands over time, which added to the variety produced. These were manufactured in countless variations, ranging from simple printed bands to elaborately hand-embroidered pieces of the highest quality. Some Nazi armbands were worn by all members of large organizations and were made by the millions. Others were intended for use at a specific time and place and were unique. Many types were made in very limited numbers. Some bore metal insignia or special identifiers that indicated the wearer’s rank, unit affiliation, or nationality. Armbands were sometimes but not always marked with ink stamps by the issuing authorities.
