Product Description: A rare, oversized 29-inch German Railway Eagle, offering exceptional presence and visual impact. Larger than the standard 24- and 27-inch examples, this impressive eagle immediately stands out with its commanding scale, bold sculptural detail, and highly desirable “been there” look collectors seek. The obverse retains a deep, original patina from authentic railway service, with attractive dark toning settled into the recessed details. The surface shows no signs of cleaning or restoration. On the reverse, all three original mounting bolts remain intact and undisturbed—an increasingly difficult feature to find. The reverse displays matching, honest patina consistent with age and use.

The eagle is crisply marked on the reverse with “PS” within a circle, identifying manufacture by Bernhard Pinter. Additional factory and classification markings include “WAGEN 720 GAL-Mg-Si” (galvanized aluminum alloy with magnesium and silicon), “RZA 7” (Zug Adler / Train Eagle 7), and “BLN” for Berlin, confirming authenticity and original railway application.
Measuring approximately 28 3/4 inches wide by 15 1/2 inches high, this is a true display-grade German Railway Eagle—large, original, well-marked, and visually powerful. An outstanding example that would serve as the centerpiece of any advanced collection. In excellent plus condition.

Historical Description: During the Third Reich, all rail transport was nationalized and organized under the German Reichsbahn. Reichsbahn rail cars were state property and included everything from the locomotives used for transporting freight, to passenger cars, street cars and trolleys. In the Nazi era, and during WWII, the Reichsbahn adorned their locomotives and passenger rail cars with large metal decorative German eagle and swastika national emblems. These were made in various sizes and had a variety of finishes to suit different purposes and vehicle types. Generally, these eagles were manufactured from aluminum or zinc alloy, with integral threaded studs on the reverse that were used to affix these to the fronts of rail cars. These eagles had a striking and imposing appearance and were an iconic part of Nazi regalia. After the war, Allied denazification policies required these to be removed. Many were destroyed, though these were eagerly sought after by Allied troops hunting for souvenirs. They are extremely collectible and desirable artifacts today.
