Product Description: RAD Enlisted Cap – Robin Hood, an original example of Reichsarbeitsdienst headgear for enlisted personnel. Constructed of brown wool with a slightly darker wool band, the cap features a period metal insignia in near-mint condition, showing only minor paint ticks to the red detailing. The wool body remains free of moth holes or tracking, reflecting careful preservation over time.
The interior retains its complete faux leather sweatband, which shows expected minor cracking and wear. The cap is stamped with the initials MH and bears additional period stamps on the crown. All four metal ventilation eyelets are intact and original. A well-preserved and visually striking RAD Enlisted Cap – Robin Hood, suitable for display or inclusion in a specialized collection of Third Reich uniforms and insignia.
Historical Description: The Reichsarbeitsdienst (RAD), or Reich Labour Service, was a Nazi-era organization established in 1935 to provide compulsory labor service for young men and later women in Germany. Its creation followed earlier voluntary labor programs and was designed to combat unemployment while promoting Nazi ideological principles of community, discipline, and service to the state. RAD service combined practical labor—such as road construction, agricultural work, and infrastructure projects—with political and paramilitary training, instilling a sense of duty, obedience, and nationalistic fervor in its members.
During the Second World War, RAD units were integrated into the German war effort, providing essential support to the Wehrmacht by constructing fortifications, maintaining roads and bridges, and performing logistical and agricultural duties in occupied territories. Members wore distinctive brown uniforms and were organized along paramilitary lines, reflecting the organization’s dual focus on labor and militarized discipline. While primarily non-combatant, RAD personnel occasionally found themselves near front-line operations, especially as the war progressed, making their service both symbolically and practically important to the Nazi regime.
