Product Description: This is a great example of a desirable Ortsgruppe Politisches Leiter Anwärter Armband. These deluxe, top quality armbands were part of the uniform of NSDAP Political Leaders. This one is made of top quality fine red wool. The long edges are finished with blue rayon cord piping, which has been zig-zag machine sewn in place. The center of the front of the armband has a white roundel with a Bevo machine woven black swastika emblem. The edges of the swastika as well as the edge of the roundel are attractively highlighted with machine embroidery in gold thread. The colors remain nice and bright, with only very slight age toning to the white fabric of the roundel. The ends of the armband are not sewn together; it’s likely that this piece was never worn. Inside, this Ortsgruppe Politisches Leiter Anwärter armband still retains its original RZM paper tag. The tag is pristine and virtually perfect, with a “D” tax code and the stamped manufacturer code “A4/343.” The condition of this scarce armband is excellent. There is some slight moth tracking to the wool nap, but no holes, staining or other major damage. It’s a nice, representative example of a sought-after piece of regalia for an NSDAP leader.
Historical Description: Nearly every military, civil, political and paramilitary organization in existence during the Third Reich used armbands. Armbands were worn on military and civilian uniforms and also on civilian clothes, from suit jackets to work clothing. They were used to denote membership in organizations, to indicate a specific role or function of the bearer, and as insignia of rank. Many organizations would change the design of their armbands over time, which added to the variety produced. These were manufactured in countless variations, ranging from simple printed bands to elaborately hand-embroidered pieces of the highest quality. Some Nazi armbands were worn by all members of large organizations and were made by the millions. Others were intended for use at a specific time and place and were unique. Many types were made in very limited numbers. Some bore metal insignia or special identifiers that indicated the wearer’s rank, unit affiliation, or nationality. Armbands were sometimes but not always marked with ink stamps by the issuing authorities.
