Product Description: This is an absolutely gorgeous and very rare NSFK table medal from the 1939 International Air Race in Frankfurt am Main. More than 100,000 spectators turned out in late July 1939 at the Frankfurt airport, to watch this race. This was the final international air race before WWII. Pilots competed in tests of speed and skill. This is an extremely high quality enameled piece that most probably was intended for event participants. It’s finely struck, with a thick gold finish. The reverse is flat and smooth, with the manufacturer stamp of Brehmer, Markenkirchen. The front bears a globe rising behind the Frankfurt skyline, surmounted by the NSFK Icarus and massive swastika emblem. The NSFK emblem is a separate piece applied to the front of the award, and it retains all of its original silver finish. The overall condition of this NSFK Table Medal is near mint. The front shows no wear and is flawless. The reverse has some minor corrosion spots on the edges, that we have made no attempt to clean. This NSFK Table Medal was made in extremely limited numbers, for skilled competitive pilots, at a time when there were not many of these people in the world. It’s an extremely desirable NSFK piece, loaded with eye appeal, and is also desirable as an early aviation collectible.

Historical Description: The National Socialist Flyers Corps (Nationalsozialistisches Fliegerkorps, or NSFK) was a Nazi paramilitary organization that conducted military aviation training and held sporting events. It was founded in April, 1937, as a successor to the DLV. The organization and ranks in the NSFK were similar to that of the SA, and it worked together with the Hitler Youth to provide education for young people. Primarily, NSFK training utilized gliders, though private airplanes and balloons were also used. Members of the organization also built and flew model aircraft. The “winged man” organizational emblem of the NSFK featured Icarus and a Nazi swastika, and was used on everything from dress uniforms, to the sports clothing worn in competitions. As with most uniformed organizations in the Third Reich, the NSFK had a myriad of specific regalia and insignia, each with its own distinct purpose and meaning.
