Product Description: This NSFK Table Medal is a scarce award, with outstanding visual appeal. This was issued for achievement in a glider competition in 1938. It’s made of aluminum that has been bronzed. The white color of the aluminum is visible peeking through around the edge of the award. The obverse bears a large and impressive rendition of the NSFK “Icarus” organizational emblem, with a prominent swastika. The outer edge is emblazoned with the wording “Nationalsozialistisches Fliegerkorps” and “19. Rhön-Segelflug-Wettbewerb 1938.” The medal has only a light patina, with some tiny age spots and a few scattered small marks. The bronze is beautiful, with smooth, clean surfaces overall. The reverse of this attractive NSFK Table Medal bears an inscription that translates to “In lock step with our Führer, we fly for our eternal Germany,” with the signature of NSFK leader General der Flieger Friedrich Christiansen. This reverse of this piece is also serial numbered “5391,” for the recipient, and shows normal patina and age toning. This is an eye-catching medal, that displays great. The condition rates as excellent.
Historical Description: The National Socialist Flyers Corps (Nationalsozialistisches Fliegerkorps, or NSFK) was a Nazi paramilitary organization that conducted military aviation training and held sporting events. It was founded in April 1937, as a successor to the DLV. The organization and ranks in the NSFK were similar to that of the SA, and it worked together with the Hitler Youth to provide education for young people. Primarily, NSFK training utilized gliders, though private airplanes and balloons were also used. Members of the organization also built and flew model aircraft. The “winged man” organizational emblem of the NSFK featured Icarus and a Nazi swastika, and was used on everything from dress uniforms, to the sports clothing worn in competitions. As with most uniformed organizations in the Third Reich, the NSFK had a myriad of specific regalia and insignia, each with its own distinct purpose and meaning.
