Product Description: This is a superb and exceptionally well-preserved example of an original NSDAP State Service Flag, measuring an impressive 96 inches by 56 inches. These flags were prominently displayed on government buildings and official NSDAP institutions throughout the Third Reich, serving as a powerful symbol of state authority and political presence.
Crafted from a high-quality, lightweight red cotton fabric, the flag retains its rich, vibrant coloration, with a large centrally sewn white roundel featuring a printed black swastika, overlaid on a prominent black-bordered white disk with a black eagle clutching a swastika—design elements unique to the State Service variant of the standard party flag. The details remain sharp, with no fading or degradation to the central imagery.
Two of the corners are fitted with original metal mounting clips, indicating its intended use for display on a building or government facility. Despite its practical design and large size, the flag remains in near mint condition. There are no rips, tears, or repairs, and the stitching throughout is strong and intact. Only a couple of very light stains—likely the result of decades of storage—are present, but they are minimal and do not detract from the overall appearance or integrity of the piece.
NSDAP State Service Flags of this size and condition are becoming increasingly difficult to find, especially ones that have survived without significant wear. This flag would make a dramatic centerpiece in any advanced World War II collection or museum display.
Historical Description: The red flag with white central disk and black swastika was introduced by Hitler in the 1920s as the flag of the National Socialist political party. In 1933, shortly after the Nazis took power, this party flag was recognized alongside the black-white-red Imperial tricolor as one of Germany’s national flags. In 1935, the use of the tricolor flag was discontinued, and between September 1935 and May 8, 1945, the Nazi party flag was the sole national flag of Germany. From its creation in the 1920s through the end of the war, this swastika flag was made and used in endless variations, from the massive banners hung at Party Day rallies to small pennants, bunting flags, and hand-held paper flags distributed along parade routes. These flags, banners and pennants flew from ships, were hung from official and private buildings, and were displayed outside business and private homes. At the end of WWII, the Allied military governments abolished the use of all Nazi symbols, including the national flag. Most Third Reich era German national flags were simply destroyed.
