NSDAP Political Leader Armband, Kreis Level Administration

Condition: Excellent

Sold

Product Description: This Kreis level NSDAP Political Leader armband is a really nice example that was actually worn on a uniform during the Third Reich. It’s an extremely high quality piece that features ornate, machine-woven gold wire oak leaves, and attractive white piping on the upper and lower edges that indicates Kreis level administration. The materials used on this are gorgeous, with a base of fine red wool that retains vibrant color. The swastika is machine woven, enhanced with gold machine embroidery, and machine stitched to the band using gold thread. The overall condition of this NSDAP Political Leader armband is excellent, with only extremely slight age toning. There is some scattered moth grazing to the wool nap, and one small, frayed hole, about the size of a pencil eraser, close to the swastika roundel. The armband still has some tiny golden-brown stitch remnants on the edges, indicating where this was sewn on to a uniform sleeve. This NSDAP Political Leader armband has loads of eye appeal and is a great example of a desirable armband that is not easy to find.

Historical Description: Nearly every military, civil, political and paramilitary organization in existence during the Third Reich used armbands. Armbands were worn on military and civilian uniforms and also on civilian clothes, from suit jackets to work clothing. They were used to denote membership in organizations, to indicate a specific role or function of the bearer, and as insignia of rank. Many organizations would change the design of their armbands over time, which added to the variety produced. These were manufactured in countless variations, ranging from simple printed bands to elaborately hand-embroidered pieces of the highest quality. Some Nazi armbands were worn by all members of large organizations and were made by the millions. Others were intended for use at a specific time and place and were unique. Many types were made in very limited numbers. Some bore metal insignia or special identifiers that indicated the wearer’s rank, unit affiliation, or nationality. Armbands were sometimes but not always marked with ink stamps by the issuing authorities.
