Product Description: This NSDAP Pistol Hanger is a rare piece of regalia, intended for use by a Nazi Party political leader. It features two German eagle and swastika emblems, one on each side of the obverse, with an oak leaves device in the center. This piece is made of fine zinc, and retains 95 percent of the original gold wash, with some light wear to the high points of the design. The eagles as well as the stippled background on the eagle panels retain great detail. The reverse of this NSDAP Pistol Hanger is flat and smooth, and retains nearly all of the original gold finish. It has the expected political type manufacturer code marking, with the round “RZM” logo of the Reichszeugmeisterei and the maker number “M5/4” indicating manufacture by the firm of Hömer & Dittermann in Wuppertal/Barmen. These pistol hangers are hard to find, and this is a great example, in extremely nice condition.
Historical Description: NSDAP Political Leaders were entitled to wear a wide variety of regalia. They had their own special uniforms, each with distinctive insignia denoting the wearer’s specific rank and level of leadership within the Nazi Party hierarchy. This insignia changed in pattern over the course of the Third Reich, creating a vast array of variations. These uniforms were of course complete with special headgear, as well as all kinds of accoutrements, as was typical for Nazi-era regalia. Political leaders wore wide belts with distinctive gilt belt buckles adorned with the Nazi eagle and swastika emblem. They were authorized to carry special Walther PPK pistols, known as “honor weapons,” with Nazi insignia on the grips. NSDAP political regalia was avidly sought-after by souvenir-hungry GIs as the war moved into Germany. Most of this regalia was destroyed as part of the denazification process; surviving pieces remain very desirable to collectors.
