Product Description: This NSDAP Kreisleiter Political Leader Armband is a very nice, unissued example. The body of this armband is made from a fine wool fabric that retains its original, eye-catching bright red color. The long edges are trimmed with white rayon piping indicating Kreis level. The top and bottom edges of this armband are adorned with machine woven oak leaf bands, with golden celleon leaves on a red background. The center of the front of the armband features a black swastika on a white roundel, affixed with gold colored machine zig-zag stitching. The short ends of the armband are not sewn together, which is typical for these when they are unissued like this. Inside, the armband is printed with the word “Oben” (up) and an arrow indicating how the armband was to be affixed to a uniform for the oak leaves to be facing in the proper direction. There is also a correct paper RZM code, printed in blue ink, with an “F” tax code. This NSDAP Kreisleiter Political Leader Armband shows no wear, and only slight age, with very light age toning to the white roundel as well as a few almost unnoticeable moth tracks on the inside. It displays very well, and remains in outstanding, near mint condition.

Historical Description: Nearly every military, civil, political, and paramilitary organization in existence during the Third Reich used armbands. Armbands were worn on military and civilian uniforms and also on civilian clothes, from suit jackets to work clothing. They were used to denote membership in organizations, to indicate a specific role or function of the bearer, and as insignia of rank. Many organizations would change the design of their armbands over time, which added to the variety produced. These were manufactured in countless variations, ranging from simple printed bands to elaborately hand-embroidered pieces of the highest quality. Some Nazi armbands were worn by all members of large organizations and were made by the millions. Others were intended for use at a specific time and place and were unique. Many types were made in very limited numbers. Some bore metal insignia or special identifiers that indicated the wearer’s rank, unit affiliation, or nationality. Armbands were sometimes but not always marked with ink stamps by the issuing authorities.
