Product Description: This is a fine original example of a smaller NSDAP Flag – Flaggenfabrik Arfelstedt produced by the noted manufacturer Flaggenfabrik Arfelstedt & Hornung of Hamburg and Altona. Measuring approximately 37 inches by 25 inches, this flag was intended for indoor or small-scale outdoor use and remains an excellent representation of Third Reich-era political symbolism. The flag is constructed from a lightweight red cotton or rayon fabric that retains its striking, original coloration with virtually no signs of fading—a testament to its well-preserved condition over the past eight decades.

Affixed to the center of the flag is a classic white roundel, machine-stitched to the body, bearing a boldly printed black swastika, a typical design feature for official NSDAP banners. Along the hoist edge, the original manufacturer’s label is still present and legible, clearly marked: Flaggenfabrik Arfelstedt & Hornung, Hamburg-Altona, a known and desirable maker among collectors. The edge is folded over and stitched for mounting, consistent with period manufacture.

Most notably, the flag shows no signs of use—no fraying, tears, stains, or moth damage—placing it in a rare category of near mint condition. The only visible imperfection is a small black dot, likely from long-term storage rather than wear. Flags of this size, maker, and condition are increasingly difficult to find and are highly sought after by serious collectors of WWII memorabilia, particularly those focused on NSDAP and political items. This NSDAP Flag – Flaggenfabrik Arfelstedt example would make a compelling display piece or a valuable addition to any advanced collection of Third Reich artifacts.

Historical Description: The red flag with white central disk and black swastika was introduced by Hitler in the 1920s as the flag of the National Socialist political party. In 1933, shortly after the Nazis took power, this party flag was recognized alongside the black-white-red Imperial tricolor as one of Germany’s national flags. In 1935, the use of the tricolor flag was discontinued, and between September 1935 and May 8, 1945, the Nazi party flag was the sole national flag of Germany. From its creation in the 1920s through the end of the war, this swastika flag was made and used in endless variations, from the massive banners hung at Party Day rallies to small pennants, bunting flags, and hand-held paper flags distributed along parade routes. These flags, banners and pennants flew from ships, were hung from official and private buildings, and were displayed outside business and private homes. At the end of WWII, the Allied military governments abolished the use of all Nazi symbols, including the national flag. Most Third Reich era German national flags were simply destroyed.
