Luftwaffe General Göring Cuff Title

Product Description: This Luftwaffe General Göring Cuff Title is a very desirable piece of regalia for an elite Luftwaffe unit. This pattern of cuff title was intended for wear by enlisted men of the Luftwaffe Regiment General Göring. This Regiment was formed in 1935, entered Austria, the Sudetenland and Prague in 1938-39, then fought on the Western and Eastern Fronts before being redesignated as Brigade Hermann Göring in 1942. This outstanding Luftwaffe General Göring Cuff Title is a top quality, early piece. It is made of dark blue wool badge cloth, which retains bold original color. The cuff title is adorned with the wording “General Göring,” beautifully and exquisitely hand embroidered in white thread. This is a worn piece, that has been removed from a uniform sleeve. It shows some wear top the exterior, as well as slight age and use toning. There is also some fairly minor moth tracking and nips. The reverse is folded over, with a textbook backing for the embroidery visible inside. It appears to be full length, as worn. This cuff title is a very attractive and fine early piece, that remains in excellent condition.

Historical Description: Cuff titles (Ärmelstreifen) are uniform accoutrements that have been used in the German military since the 19^thcentury. Intended to foster a certain sense of ‘esprit de corps’ amongst members of the armed forces, they were authorized for wear by members of designated units for the duration of their service time within that unit. In the event of transfer out of the unit, the cuff title was to be removed from the service member’s uniform. During the Third Reich, the German military continued this tradition by instituting honorary cuff titles to certain ‘special’ formations. This practice is perhaps most well-known for its application amongst Waffen- ϟϟ units. Cuff titles were also authorized for wear within all branches of the Wehrmacht (Army, Air Force and Navy) as well. These unit-specific cuff titles are not to be confused with others, which were awarded for participation in a certain campaign. The tradition, within the German military of wearing cuff titles, continues into the 21^st century with certain honor guard contingents of the Bundeswehr being permitted to wear unit-specific cuff titles.
