Product Description: An attractive Kriegsmarine High Seas Fleet Badge – f.o., produced by Friedrich Orth of Vienna and executed in zinc. The badge retains approximately 75% of its original gilt finish to the wreath, complemented by roughly 75% of the original darkened finish to the ship. High points show gentle wear with the underlying metal visible, consistent with age and careful handling.
The reverse is fitted with correct and characteristic Orth hardware, comprising round wire pin, and round wire catch, all typical of f.o. manufacture. Condition is assessed as excellent plus, with only a tiny spot of oxidation noted in the right bridge area of the ship, unobtrusive and in keeping with the overall presentation.
A well-preserved and visually appealing example of the Kriegsmarine High Seas Fleet Badge – f.o., offering strong definition, desirable maker attribution, and an appealing balance of original finish and honest wear.
Historical Description: The High Seas Fleet War Badge was instituted on April 30th by Großadmiral Erich Raeder. The institution of the award was to recognize the actions of personnel serving on German Battleships and Cruisers, first during the naval battles against England, and later the naval battles against any enemy countries. Awarding criteria varied from twelve weeks of active service on a battleship or cruiser, good conduct, posthumously while serving aboard vessel, or for the sinking of the sailor’s ship from under him.
