Product Description: This NSDAP Kreis Leiter eines Amtes Armband is a very eye-catching, all-original piece of regalia for a Nazi Party political leader. This armband was intended to be worn by an official with the rank of “Leiter eines Amtes,”at the Kreis level. The body of the armband is made of a top quality, fine wool fabric, that still retains bold crimson color. The center of the front of the armband features a swastika made out of ribbed black rayon tape, on a white fabric roundel. The swastika and roundel are outlined with gold trim, factory machine stitched in place. The long edges of the armband feature bands of woven oak leaf ornamentation. The upper band has leaves executed in yellow celleon, while the bottom band has some metal content. These bands probably looked identical when new, but the metallic content of the bottom band has taken on some toning from age, and now is a bit darker than the upper band. The top and bottom edges are piped in white rayon, for Kreis level. Inside, this attractive Kreis Leiter eines Amtes armband retains its original RZM paper tag, with a “J” tax category and stamped maker code. This armband has never been sewn together in the back, but has a small tear near the center of one short edge, perhaps from being pinned together in the back. This choice political armband is in excellent condition.
Historical Description: Nearly every military, civil, political and paramilitary organization in existence during the Third Reich used armbands. Armbands were worn on military and civilian uniforms and also on civilian clothes, from suit jackets to work clothing. They were used to denote membership in organizations, to indicate a specific role or function of the bearer, and as insignia of rank. Many organizations would change the design of their armbands over time, which added to the variety produced. These were manufactured in countless variations, ranging from simple printed bands to elaborately hand-embroidered pieces of the highest quality. Some Nazi armbands were worn by all members of large organizations and were made by the millions. Others were intended for use at a specific time and place and were unique. Many types were made in very limited numbers. Some bore metal insignia or special identifiers that indicated the wearer’s rank, unit affiliation, or nationality. Armbands were sometimes but not always marked with ink stamps by the issuing authorities.
