Product Description: This is an excellent original pair of WWII German Infantry Oberfeldwebel shoulder straps from the 32nd Regiment, featuring white wool piping for infantry, silver NCO tress, “32” regimental cyphers, and two silver rank pips denoting the rank of Oberfeldwebel. Constructed in the sewn-in style, both straps are made of field green wool on the front and back. They remain in outstanding condition with minor loose threads and light, honest wear, making them a well-preserved and desirable example for collectors of original German militaria.
Historical Description: The Großdeutschland Division, originally formed as an elite infantry regiment in 1939, became one of Nazi Germany’s most prestigious and heavily equipped units during World War II. Initially serving as a ceremonial guard unit in Berlin, it was rapidly expanded and deployed to frontline combat, distinguishing itself on the Eastern Front. Known for its fierce fighting spirit and superior training, the unit was eventually upgraded to a Panzergrenadier and later Panzer division, often receiving priority access to new equipment. Its soldiers were easily recognized by their distinctive “GD” monogram shoulder boards, a unique insignia that symbolized their elite status within the Wehrmacht. Throughout the war, the Großdeutschland Division played a key role in numerous major battles, including Kursk and the retreat from the Eastern Front, suffering heavy casualties but maintaining a reputation for military effectiveness and loyalty to the regime.
