Product Description: This Imperial Navy Miniature Dagger is a desirable and seldom-encountered example displaying excellent craftsmanship and strong collector appeal. Measuring approximately 7 1/2 inches in length, miniature naval daggers of this type remain increasingly sought-after among advanced collectors of WWII German militaria, particularly when preserved in complete and original condition.

The plated blade retains a bright, attractive finish with only a few minor marks of pitting that have been polished over. The ricasso remains unmarked, as commonly encountered on period miniature examples. The original red felt buffer pad is intact at the ricasso as shown.  The handle presents particularly well, showing only light age-related marks while remaining free from major flaws, cracks, or breaks. The Imperial crown pommel and Navy crossguard display an even light patina, with finely executed detailing that enhances the overall presentation of the piece. An attached portepee remains present, and is completely intact.

This Kriegsmarine 1st Pattern Miniature Dagger is complete with its original scabbard, the fittings displaying an attractive and well-matched patina consistent with the hilt. The scabbard shows no denting or damage and presents nicely overall. All metal fittings remain complete and undamaged.

Overall, an impressive and visually appealing Kriegsmarine 1st Pattern Miniature Dagger, offered in excellent condition and representing a fine addition to advanced collections of German naval edged weapons, miniature daggers, and WWII militaria.

Historical Description: The traditional sword was part of the regalia of many of the Third Reich’s military and paramilitary branches, including the Wehrmacht, Polizei, and SS. Wear of the sword was typically limited to dress occasions, and was generally reserved for officers and NCOs. Each soldier or official had to purchase his own sword. These were made by a variety of manufacturers and made available through distributors. Although the overall pattern and appearance of Third Reich swords was regulated by the government or military, there were countless options that the wearer of the sword could choose from, depending on his personal taste, and how much money he wanted to spend. Blades were available with or without etchings. Some swords bore German national symbols on the handle, such as an eagle and swastika on the cross guard or grip, or an organization emblem or swastika on the pommel. Other swords were manufactured without these emblems. Swords could be personalized with engravings or etchings identifying the owner. In wear, they were suspended from a sword hanger worn under the uniform. The wide variety of Third Reich swords, and the generally extremely high level of workmanship used in the traditional craft of sword manufacture, makes these extremely interesting to collect and to study.
