Product Description: This Hitler Youth Dagger by Wüsthof is an untouched time capsule, exactly as it was brought back by an American serviceman after WWII. This piece was taken as a souvenir by Lt. Colonel Ridgely Bond, and was purchased directly from the Colonel’s granddaughter in Maryland. The blade on this one is double marked, with “RZM M7/12 1940” on the ricasso, and the commercial type manufacturer mark of the desirable maker Ed Wüsthof in Solingen on the blade’s reverse.  This Hitler Youth knife was definitely used, and there are wear marks here and there on the blade. The original leather buffer pad is present. The handle of this one is nice, with no damage to the grips or to the enamel on the HJ diamond emblem. There is some even, honest wear, with some base metal showing in some worn places on the metal. This Hitler Youth dagger by Wüsthof is complete with its original scabbard, which is in outstanding condition. Nearly all of the original glossy black paint finish is still present. The leather is intact and sound, with a functional snap closure to the retaining strap. This choice piece is fresh to the market, and remains in excellent overall condition.

Historical Description: The Hitler Youth Knife (Hitlerjugend Fahrtenmesser) was introduced in the summer of 1933, shortly after the Nazi seizure of power in Germany. It was produced by a multitude of manufacturers and could be purchased from authorized shops for a price of 4 Reichsmarks. It was used not only as a dress sidearm, but as a functional camping tool, and these were commonly sharpened by their original owners. The earliest examples bore the motto of the Hitler Youth, “Blut und Ehre!” (Blood and Honor), etched on the blade. The blades on these early knives were marked with commercial manufacturer logos. They had nickel silver handles, and anodized metal scabbards. The use of the etched motto was discontinued in August 1938. Later HJ knives had nickel plated steel handles, painted scabbards, and the maker logos were replaced with an RZM code along with the year of manufacture. There are also transitional types that still have the etched motto but have dates on the blade ricasso. Manufacture of these knives is believed to have ceased around 1942. All HJ knives have the diamond emblem of the Hitler Youth on the handle.
