Product Description: This desirable German Veterans Kyffhäuserbund Armband, worn by a board member (“Beirat”) of a local chapter of the N.S.-Reichskriegerbund Kyffhäuser e.V., the officially recognized veterans’ organization during the Third Reich era. These leadership-designated armbands were produced in low numbers and are rarely encountered today.

The armband features a finely BeVo-machine-woven organizational emblem, displaying the 1937–43 pattern NS-RKB device—an Iron Cross overlaid with a swastika, set on a bright red shield. This woven emblem is neatly machine-stitched to a blue wool armband, its colors still vivid with only the slightest trace of age toning to the BeVo patch.

Running the full length of the band beneath the emblem is a strip of silver wire rank Tresse, denoting the wearer’s position as Beirat, a leadership and advisory role within the Kyffhäuserbund hierarchy. This addition sets the piece apart from standard examples and confirms its elevated status.

The armband shows honest period wear, including moth holes to the blue wool body and one side that has been cut. The reverse retains snap fasteners used to attach and easily remove the band from the tunic for laundering—an excellent, untouched detail indicative of true field use.

Overall, this Kyffhäuserbund Leadership Armband remains a very appealing and representative example of a seldom-seen veterans’ organization variant. Despite the expected wear, it grades excellent, retaining strong color, crisp details, and superb display presence.

Historical Description: Nearly every military, civil, political and paramilitary organization in existence during the Third Reich used armbands. Armbands were worn on military and civilian uniforms and also on civilian clothes, from suit jackets to work clothing. They were used to denote membership in organizations, to indicate a specific role or function of the bearer, and as insignia of rank. Many organizations would change the design of their armbands over time, which added to the variety produced. These were manufactured in countless variations, ranging from simple printed bands to elaborately hand-embroidered pieces of the highest quality. Some Nazi armbands were worn by all members of large organizations and were made by the millions. Others were intended for use at a specific time and place and were unique. Many types were made in very limited numbers. Some bore metal insignia or special identifiers that indicated the wearer’s rank, unit affiliation, or nationality. Armbands were sometimes but not always marked with ink stamps by the issuing authorities.
