Product Description: This Gau Leiter einer Hauptstelle Armband is a great example of a top-quality piece of regalia for a fairly high level Nazi Party political leader. It’s a textbook piece, with the body of the armband made of a very fine, thick wool fabric, which retains full original color. The black ribbon swastika and thin white fabric roundel are applied with bright golden stitching. The long edges of this armband are adorned with attractive crimson piping, indicating Gau (District) level, as well as eye-catching oak leaf ornamentation made from woven red rayon and gold celleon. The oak leaf bands are nicely factory machine applied. The armband is not sewn together in the back, which is typical for these NSDAP political leader armbands. There are a few small moth holes, visible in the photos, that are on the back side of the armband and do not detract when it is displayed. The inside of the armband is clean, with no RZM tag. This Gau Leiter einer Hauptstelle Armband is very appealing, with great color, only extremely slight age toning, and little or no sign of wear. The condition rates as excellent plus.

Historical Description: Nearly every military, civil, political and paramilitary organization in existence during the Third Reich used armbands. Armbands were worn on military and civilian uniforms and also on civilian clothes, from suit jackets to work clothing. They were used to denote membership in organizations, to indicate a specific role or function of the bearer, and as insignia of rank. Many organizations would change the design of their armbands over time, which added to the variety produced. These were manufactured in countless variations, ranging from simple printed bands to elaborately hand-embroidered pieces of the highest quality. Some Nazi armbands were worn by all members of large organizations and were made by the millions. Others were intended for use at a specific time and place and were unique. Many types were made in very limited numbers. Some bore metal insignia or special identifiers that indicated the wearer’s rank, unit affiliation, or nationality. Armbands were sometimes but not always marked with ink stamps by the issuing authorities.
