Product Description: Epic Artifacts is honored to present an extraordinary and exceptionally rare Aluminum Kriegsmarine Dagger, a true rarity among collectors of German naval edged weapons. Daggers of this type, featuring aluminum fittings, are exceedingly scarce, with only a handful of known examples in existence.

This superb piece exemplifies the finest craftsmanship of the era. The unmarked blade is exquisitely etched with the traditional fouled anchor and ship motif, retaining a pristine tip and only the most minimal signs of age. The push-button blade locking mechanism remains fully functional, a testament to the dagger’s superior preservation.

The hilt is a masterpiece of design, featuring the distinctive WKC-pattern eagle pommel and crossguard, both meticulously crafted from gilt aluminum. The original gold gilding is remarkably well-preserved, exhibiting a radiant luster that enhances the overall aesthetic. The grip, made of vibrant orange Trylon, is immaculate, adorned with its original, tightly wound wire wrap. Further elevating this exceptional offering, the dagger retains its original portepee, still tied in its authentic, untouched knot, which has gracefully aged to a deepened patina.

Accompanying the dagger is its original brass scabbard, which has developed a rich, mellow patina over time. A single, minor dent near the tip does not detract from its overall integrity. Also included is an outstanding set of early Kriegsmarine hangers with aluminum fittings, exhibiting near-mint condition. The fabric remains crisp with full original color, and the gilt metal components display only the lightest traces of wear, while all clips remain fully functional.

This rare Kriegsmarine dagger stands in strong excellent condition, with its original components exceptionally well-preserved. Its striking visual appeal, historical significance, and remarkable scarcity make it an invaluable acquisition for the discerning collector of rare Third Reich naval artifacts.

A truly magnificent and seldom-seen example of Kriegsmarine edged weaponry—worthy of the finest collections.

Historical Description: The German Navy adopted the use of a dress dagger for its officers in the 19th century. In 1935, the Nazi leadership reintroduced universal conscription for German men as part of a plan to greatly expand German military power. The German Navy became part of the new Wehrmacht and was renamed the “Kriegsmarine.” The leadership of the Kriegsmarine was largely very traditional and initially retained many pre-Nazi traditions including the traditional dress dagger which was unchanged since WWI. But in 1938, a new dagger was introduced for the Kriegsmarine, that bore the Nazi swastika emblem. This pattern of dress dagger is known today as the Second Model Navy Dagger. The earlier “flaming ball” device used on the first model pommel was replaced with a German national eagle emblem clutching a wreathed swastika. The crossguard on the second model Navy dagger was longer than that found on the first pattern. The standard blade was acid etched with a fouled anchor and ornate foliage pattern. Because it was expected that these daggers would be worn at sea, all parts with the exception of the blade were initially made from brass. The Second Model Navy Dagger was made by more than a dozen manufacturers in a number of variants until the end of WWII. As with all officer dress daggers, they were not issued, but were private purchase items. Officers could customize these to suit their own tastes by upgrading them and customizing them in various ways.
