Product Description: An exceptionally fine Early SA ‘Sturmabteilung’ Hochland Edelweiss badge, of pre-RZM manufacture, struck in lightweight aluminum and exhibiting exquisite craftsmanship. The obverse features a sharply defined Edelweiss flower with a centrally inset, enameled swastika upon a gilt ground. The enamel remains vivid and intact, showing only the most minimal traces of age, while the aluminum petals retain their original crisp detail and gentle toning developed over time.

The reverse is fitted with the original two-prong attachment with one prong now absent. This minor loss does not detract from the piece’s overall presentation or authenticity.

A superb and high-quality early production example of this rare and regionally distinctive insignia, representing the Hochland SA group. Completely original, uncleaned, and preserved in excellent condition, this badge stands as a distinguished specimen from the formative period of the Sturmabteilung. Badge comes with certificate from The Gettysburg Museum of History.

Historical Description: During World War II, German sleeve insignia served as key identifiers of unit affiliation, specialization, and honors across the Wehrmacht, Waffen-SS, and other military organizations. Worn on the upper or lower sleeves of uniforms, these patches included branch insignia like the Gebirgsjäger Edelweiss, specialist trade badges, campaign cuff titles (e.g., “Afrika,” “Kreta”), and foreign volunteer insignia. Produced in embroidered, printed, or machine-woven formats—most notably by BeVo Wuppertal—these insignia combined functionality with symbolism. As the war progressed, materials and production methods became more simplified, but sleeve insignia remained a vital aspect of German military uniform tradition and are now highly sought after by collectors.
