Product Description: This Capture of Paris 1940 Meissen Table Medal is an attractive piece of Third Reich artistic design. This medallion was likely intended as a presentation piece. It’s made of a fine ceramic, with a natural red color, and measures 5 cm in diameter. One side is adorned with a very detailed representation of a German Panzer tank cresting a hill, beneath a German swastika emblem. The edge features the wording “Zur Erinnerung an den Feldzug in Frankreich” (In Memory of the Campaign in France), as well as the crossed swords emblem of the maker, Meissen. The other side depicts German airplanes over the Eiffel Tower, with the inscription “Einnahme von Paris 14, Juni 1940” (Capture of Paris, June 14 1940). This Capture of Paris 1940 commemorative medallion is in excellent plus condition. There are no chips or cracks, and only a few small, scattered marks that we have made no attempt to clean. This is a fairly scarce piece, with a great look.

Historical Description: Meissen porcelain is the first European hard-paste porcelain. It was developed in 1708, by Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus. The production of porcelain at Meissen, near Dresden, started in 1710 and attracted many artists. This production established one of the most famous porcelain manufacturers Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen GmbH, which is still in business today. Its signature logo is the crossed swords and was introduced in 1720, to protect its production. The mark of the crossed swords is one of the oldest trademarks in existence. It dominated the style of European porcelain until 1756. It was expensive and bought by the upper classes. Several fine pieces, such as these Meissen Medallions, were produced during the Third Reich Era.
