Product Description: This 2nd Pattern DLV Visor Cap Insignia is a scarce original set. Both of these pieces have nicely matching, light age patina, with attractive toning, and both are made of a brass alloy (Tombak). The highlight here is the impressive enameled cockade, which features a large black enameled Nazi swastika superimposed on a propeller and wings emblem, and surrounded by a red enameled ring. The reverse of this cockade retains all of the original silver finish, which has toned dark. Both of the original Tombak prongs are intact. The first pattern visor cap eagle is also a really nice example, with all of the original finish, and no damage or repairs. The front retains nearly all of the original black paint on the swastika emblem. On the back, both prongs are intact, and there is a typical circular “RZM” marking. This 2nd Pattern DLV Visor Cap Insignia is a textbook set in all aspects, with wonderful original finish, and remains in excellent condition.

Historical Description:  Historical Description: The Deutscher Luftsportverband (DLV) was an organization created by the NSDAP in March 1933. The “Sport” in the name helped to conceal the fact that the DLV were not really a sport organization, but rather was made up of units that conducted military flight training- specifically, the training of military pilots, contravening the Treaty of Versailles stipulation that Germany was not to have any air force. The head of the DLV was Hermann Göring, and Ernst Röhm was the deputy chief. The organization was formed from a number of pre-existing flight clubs. The various SA “Fliegersturm” units were disbanded, and their personnel rolled into the DLV, with an increased focus on military style flight training rather than air sports. The DLV was a uniformed organization, and wore uniforms similar to that of the SA, but with distinctive insignia and rank structure. In 1937, the DLV was disbanded; the successor organization was the Nationalsozialistisches Fliegerkorps (NSFK).
