Product Description: A superb and rarely encountered 1st Pattern NSKK Helmet Cap Eagle, executed in stamped sheet metal and displaying the distinctive long-winged eagle and swastika emblem of the National Socialist Motor Corps (Nationalsozialistisches Kraftfahrkorps). The obverse retains an attractive, even patina with light rippling to the metal, characteristic of genuine period wear. The swastika shows paint wear from age and use. The reverse is hollow-backed, showing age-consistent oxidation and patina throughout. Clearly stamped with the circular RZM logo and maker code “43”, denoting officially sanctioned manufacture.
This complete example retains its original wire attachment prongs at both wing tips and the roundel, each secured with the original solder. The prongs show gentle bending from prior mounting, attesting to authentic field use. Presented in excellent condition, the piece exemplifies the refined design and craftsmanship of early NSKK insignia. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from The Gettysburg Museum of History, this 1st Pattern NSKK Helmet Cap Eagle represents an outstanding and historically significant specimen of early Motor Corps regalia.
Historical Description: The National Socialist Motor Corps (Nationalsozialistisches Kraftfahrkorps, or NSKK) was a Nazi paramilitary organization that conducted training in the operation of motorcycles and automobiles, and also transported Nazi Party and SA personnel. It was founded in 1931, as a successor to the National Socialist Automobile Corps. The organization and ranks in the NSKK were similar to that of the SA. It focused on fitness in motoring skills, including maintenance and use of both military and civilian vehicles. NSKK members assisted with traffic direction, as well as the transportation of personnel involved with constructing the bunker system on Germany’s western frontier. Starting with the outbreak of war in 1939, the NSKK assisted the German armed forces, providing infrastructural support. As with most uniformed organizations in the Third Reich, the NSKK had a myriad of specific regalia and insignia, each with its own distinct purpose and meaning.
