Product Description: Offered here is an exceptionally rare and highly desirable SS Sharpshooter Badge 1937, manufactured by the renowned Otto Gahr of Munich, one of the most prestigious silversmiths of the Third Reich. Known for producing high-end SS regalia, Gahr’s craftsmanship is unmistakable in this badge, which is constructed from Cupal (a copper-aluminum composite), ensuring both durability and a striking appearance. The design features a bold, raised SS runic emblem above a finely detailed target, symbolizing the elite marksmanship required to earn this coveted award. The silvered finish remains well-preserved, showing only minimal wear, while the details remain crisp and sharp, highlighting the superior quality of Gahr’s work.

The reverse is properly marked “Otto Gahr”, as expected for this early issue, and retains its original pin and hinge assembly, both of which remain fully intact and functional. Unlike many examples that have suffered repairs or heavy wear, this badge has no signs of damage or alteration, making it a true investment-grade collectible.

SS Sharpshooter Badges by Otto Gahr are extremely rare, as they were awarded only to a select group of marksmen within the SS, making surviving examples difficult to find—especially in this condition. This is a keeper-worthy piece of SS insignia, ideal for serious collectors of elite Third Reich awards.

Condition: Excellent+ – A rare opportunity to own a true SS marksmanship relic!

Historical Description: Unlike the German Army’s shooting qualifications, which were awarded in multiple grades (Schützenschnur), the SS had its own exclusive system for recognizing superior marksmanship. The SS Sharpshooter Badge was issued to individuals who excelled in shooting tests, demonstrating precision, consistency, and advanced firearms handling. These trials were rigorous, as marksmanship was a critical skill for SS personnel, especially within armed divisions such as the SS-Verfügungstruppe (later the Waffen-SS).

The design and production of this badge reflected the SS’s emphasis on prestige and exclusivity. Many were manufactured by Otto Gahr, a renowned Munich-based silversmith known for producing high-end SS regalia, including honor rings and ceremonial insignia. His craftsmanship ensured that the badge was made with high-quality materials, often featuring a Cupal (copper-aluminum) construction with a silvered finish. The emblematic SS runes above a target signified both the wearer’s affiliation with the SS and their marksmanship expertise.

Due to the limited issuance of these badges and the destruction of SS insignia following World War II, surviving examples are exceptionally rare. They remain highly sought after by collectors of WWII militaria, representing both the skill and elite status that the SS sought to project through its training programs.
