Product Description:

An attractive and highly displayable original NSDAP Ortsgruppenleiter Political Visor, representing one of the most iconic and increasingly sought-after forms of Third Reich political headgear. Constructed of fine quality brown tricot wool exhibiting the correct diagonal weave pattern, this example displays the refined tailoring and elevated construction standards associated with NSDAP political leadership visors. The profile remains especially attractive, retaining excellent form and a commanding display presence indicative of quality wartime manufacture.

The exterior presents with strong overall eye appeal and unmistakable originality, showing authentic age and character accumulated through decades of storage and preservation. Areas of staining, natural discoloration, and scattered mothing are present, most noticeably surrounding portions of the cornflower-blue piping. Minor age-related marks are also visible to the crown and side folds, all entirely consistent with careful period use and long-term storage. Rather than detracting, these characteristics contribute to the highly desirable untouched nature of the visor and reinforce its unquestionable wartime authenticity and period character.

The gilt political insignia retain an attractive and even age patina throughout. Particularly noteworthy is the national eagle, which preserves a substantial amount of its original gold finish, lending exceptional contrast and visual impact against the rich brown wool body. The matching cockade and wreath remain especially well-preserved and are complemented by the original gold chin cord, which exhibits beautiful age toning and deep patination throughout. The dark brown velvet cap band remains highly attractive, displaying only moderate rub wear and honest service use while maintaining excellent overall presentation.

The interior is lined in tan rayon and exhibits expected age toning, discoloration, and service wear consistent with its period use. The original celluloid sweat shield diamond remains fully intact, an increasingly uncommon feature on surviving political visors. The leather sweatband is incomplete, exhibiting tears and losses concentrated primarily to the forehead area. Lifting the sweatband reveals the original RZM “Tuchmütze” tag, clearly marked with maker code “104” for J.C. Kornacker of Hildesheim-Hannover, along with NSDAP registration number “412073.” The cap is approximately a 56 in size.

The fiber visor exhibits slight separation at one corner corresponding to the area of sweatband loss, a minor age-related condition issue that does little to detract from the overall presentation of the piece.

Possessing exceptional shelf presence and the coveted untouched appearance highly prized by advanced collectors, this NSDAP Ortsgruppenleiter Political Visor represents an increasingly scarce and desirable surviving example of WWII German political regalia. Combining textbook construction, desirable maker attribution, strong original characteristics, and undeniable display appeal, the overall condition remains firmly within the excellent category and presents as a striking example for any collection.

Historical Description: The visor cap (Schirmmütze) was an important part of the headgear worn by German uniformed military, civil, paramilitary and political organizations during the Third Reich. This was the standard cloth headgear worn as a part of the service uniform. Visor caps were worn outdoors, as well as indoors, and were often required to be worn by all personnel on duty. Visor caps were made in versions specific to each organization and were often further differentiated through the use of insignia, colored piping, or style of chin cord, to indicate rank, role or branch. The insignia used on these caps ranged from simple stamped metal emblems, to elaborate hand embroidery. Visor caps were issued to enlisted soldiers and NCOs in the military and in some other organizations. Officers had to purchase their own hats, and lower ranks could choose to purchase caps that were of a higher quality than the rather basic, issue examples. The private purchase caps were generally made in very high quality, with fine materials. A wide variety of fabrics were used, from Trikot and doeskin, to heavy wool, or even lightweight white fabric for summer wear. In the military, issue of these caps was generally suspended shortly after the outbreak of the war, but they continued to be worn by some troops until the end of the war.
