Product Description: Instituted in 1942 during the height of the Great Patriotic War, the Order of Alexander Nevsky was awarded to Red Army officers for personal bravery and outstanding leadership in combat. Conferred upon commanders who combined tactical skill with decisive courage, the decoration occupies a distinguished place among Soviet wartime honors. Serial number 35203 is consistent with production in 1945, situating this example within the final victorious campaigns of the Second World War.

This two-part constructed badge, engraved 35203 on the reverse, remains in excellent overall condition. The red enamel star is notably well preserved, free from cracks or chips, displaying only minor surface wear commensurate with age. The obverse retains the majority of its original finish to the central profile, surrounding wreath, and radiating star, preserving the strong visual contrast and sculptural detail characteristic of wartime manufacture. Measuring approximately 48.7 mm in height and 49.9 mm across, the decoration weighs 51 grams with lug and 42 grams without; the lug may represent a later replacement. Soviet Order of Alexander Nevsky #35203 is a compelling late-war example of this celebrated Soviet military distinction, combining historical resonance with impressive state of preservation.

Historical Description:  The Order of Alexander Nevsky was established on 29 July 1942 during the Second World War by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Named after the medieval Russian prince and military hero Alexander Nevsky, the award was created at a critical moment in the Great Patriotic War to recognize exceptional leadership among Red Army officers. It was specifically intended for junior and mid-level commanders who demonstrated personal bravery, tactical skill, and the ability to achieve success against superior enemy forces while minimizing losses.

Distinctive among Soviet decorations, the order combined patriotic symbolism with historical continuity, linking Soviet military valor to Russia’s medieval past. The badge features a red enamel five-pointed star overlaid with rays, a central medallion bearing the profile of Alexander Nevsky (based on the film portrayal by actor Nikolai Cherkasov), and crossed weapons beneath. Awarded primarily between 1942 and 1945, it became one of the most respected Soviet combat orders. After the war, it remained part of the Soviet honors system until 1991 and was later revived by the Russian Federation in a modified form, underscoring its enduring military prestige.
