Product Description: An exceptional and highly desirable example of the Soviet Union’s most prestigious decoration, this Type 5, Variant 1B Order of Lenin was produced between the 1950s and 1991 and bears a serial number firmly within the documented range of 191,115–546,989. The present numbering places it toward the earlier awards of this long production run, enhancing its appeal to discerning collectors of Soviet and Cold War–era honors. Executed in 18k gold and platinum, the badge displays a remarkably crisp and luminous portrait of Vladimir Lenin, the sculptural relief retaining its original brilliance and sharp definition. The red enamel banner is vivid and glossy, beautifully preserved with rich saturation that contrasts elegantly against the warm gold wheat sheaves and polished platinum medallion.
The reverse impressed with the serial number 279066, clearly struck and well defined. Weighing 41 grams with suspension (33 grams without), and measuring approximately 44.18 mm in height by 38.3 mm in width, the decoration has a substantial and impressive presence in hand. The medal itself remains in excellent ++ condition, with particularly attractive surfaces and finish; the ribbon suspension exhibits expected age-related discoloration and wear, consistent with period use. Soviet Order of Lenin #279066 represents not merely a state award, but a tangible artifact of Soviet history—an enduring symbol of honor, ideology, and power—offered here in superior preservation and with strong collector desirability.
Historical Description: Established on April 6, 1930, the Order of Lenin was the highest civilian decoration of the Soviet Union, named after Vladimir Lenin. It was awarded for exceptional service to the state, including achievements in military service, industry, science, culture, and public administration. Created during the era of Joseph Stalin, it symbolized supreme dedication to socialist ideals and was often granted alongside titles such as Hero of the Soviet Union or Hero of Socialist Labor. Over 400,000 were awarded before the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991.
The badge featured a gold and platinum medallion with Lenin’s profile, a red enamel banner bearing his name, wheat ears, and the hammer-and-sickle emblem, worn on a red ribbon with yellow stripes. It was presented not only to individuals—such as Yuri Gagarin—but also to military units, factories, cities, and even foreign nationals. Beyond personal recognition, the Order of Lenin served as a powerful political symbol of loyalty and achievement within the Soviet system.
