Product Description: Close Combat Badge Carton Box – FLL, an uncommon and highly sought-after example of a Third Reich award container, issued for the bronze grade Nahkampfspange. Produced by FLL (Friedrich Linden, Lüdenscheid), the box features stapled corners with all staples intact and retains its original structure with some warping to back wall.
The carton shows minor signs of age, including a very small tear measuring approximately 3–4 mm on one side and some light crushing, yet it remains complete and presents very well. A desirable example, the Close Combat Badge Carton Box – FLL offers both historical significance and display appeal for collectors of Third Reich awards and insignia.
Historical Description: The Close Combat Clasp (Nahkampfspange) was instituted by Nazi Germany on 25 November 1942 to recognize infantry soldiers who had engaged in hand-to-hand combat at the front lines. Designed to honor extreme bravery and close-quarters fighting, the award was intended for soldiers who had participated in multiple close combat actions, supplementing the earlier Infantry Assault Badge and Iron Cross for frontline engagement.
The clasp was issued in three grades: bronze, for 15 days of close combat; silver, for 30 days; and gold, for 50 days. It was worn on the uniform above the left breast pocket, immediately above other combat awards. The decoration became one of the most prestigious combat awards of the Wehrmacht, reflecting both the intensity of frontline fighting and the personal courage of those who earned it. Designs were typically produced in metals such as brass or zinc, featuring a central motif of a crossed bayonet and hand grenade surrounded by an oak leaf wreath.
