Product Description: This Luftwaffe Flak Badge – Juncker is an nice example from the renowned maker C. E. Juncker of Berlin. Crafted from high-quality nickel silver, this desirable variant displays striking detail and craftsmanship. The obverse retains a beautiful contrast, with bright luster on the high points set against darker recessed areas, showing only slight, even wear and crisp, original details that give it outstanding eye appeal.

The reverse is smooth and flat, bearing the well-known “C. E. Juncker Berlin SW” maker’s mark deeply stamped at the center. A light, natural patina remains to the top half, while the lower have shows a rough repair.  The repair has left scratches and additional solder to the lower half as shown. The hardware setup is textbook Juncker, featuring the classic barrel hinge, round wire catch, and a fully functional, tapering attachment pin in spite of the repair.

This Luftwaffe Flak Badge – Juncker stands as a good honest example, and rates as very good overall, albeit excellent from a display standpoint.

Historical Description: The Luftwaffe Flak Badge was instituted on 10th January 1941. The original design, an Eagle clutching a swastika flying above a raised 88mm gun emplacement and surrounded by an oakleaves wreath, is credited to Wilhelm Ernst Peekhaus, a famous German architect whose designs were favored by the German OKW and used for many other combat and qualification awards. The criteria for the awarding of the Luftwaffe Flak Badge was based upon a points system. Points were given for the downing of enemy aircraft and the assistance of the downing of aircraft by searchlight or spotting units. After accruing 16 points, the badge would be awarded. Both officers and enlisted personnel were eligible for the award.
