Product Description: A well-preserved Harbor Master Flag 100cm x 120cm, displaying the attractive character and signs of service that collectors value in authentic maritime textiles. The flag remains in excellent overall condition, bearing only a few small holes—each no larger than a dime—and light, scattered wear consistent with age and use. Minor, even discoloration lends the piece a pleasing vintage surface without compromising its visual strength.
Stamped Flg d 1,0 x 1,2 on the reinforcement, the flag measures approximately 92 × 122 cm as preserved, retaining its original rope with metal hooks at both ends, along with reinforced cloth corners that speak to its intended durability in harbor service. With its honest patina, completeness, and appealing proportions, this Harbor Master Flag 100cm x 120cm represents a compelling example for the discerning collector of maritime signals and harbor authority artifacts.
Historical Description: During the Third Reich and WWII, a wide variety of flags and pennants were used on German buildings, ships, cars, and vehicles. In the military, vehicle flags and pennants were used to indicate branch or rank, or specific command roles. The various civilian organizations also had vehicle flags and pennants for members of their organization or to denote the vehicles of officers, leaders or people in specific roles. Even political leaders had their own flags which were often rank specific. Some of the flags, especially military ones, were simply printed, and some were machine woven or stitched, while the flags for political leaders and the highest ranking military personnel were more decorative and often elaborately hand embroidered in bullion wire. Some vehicle flags were mass produced, including simple national flag type swastika emblem pennants that could have been bought by any patriotic supporter. Others were unique. These flags were attractive souvenirs for GI troops at the end of the war, and are eagerly collected today.
