Product Description: An exceptionally fine Early NSDAP SA Gruppe “Hochland” Edelweiss Badge, of pre-RZM manufacture, expertly struck in lightweight metal and displaying exceptional craftsmanship throughout. The obverse, constructed in two pieces, presents a crisply defined gilt Edelweiss flower centered by a finely detailed swastika. The surfaces retain their original gilt brilliance with subtle toning consistent with age and authenticity.
The reverse is fitted with the original dual-prong attachment system, both prongs remaining intact and undisturbed. The gold-gilt central flower with swastika also retains its original attachment fittings, confirming the badge’s complete and unaltered condition.
A superb and early production example of this scarce and regionally distinctive insignia, representing the SA Gruppe “Hochland.” Entirely original and uncleaned, the badge is preserved in excellent condition and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from The Gettysburg Museum of History. A highly desirable and historically significant specimen from the formative period of the Sturmabteilung.
Historical Description: During World War II, German sleeve insignia served as key identifiers of unit affiliation, specialization, and honors across the Wehrmacht, Waffen-SS, and other military organizations. Worn on the upper or lower sleeves of uniforms, these patches included branch insignia like the Gebirgsjäger Edelweiss, specialist trade badges, campaign cuff titles (e.g., “Afrika,” “Kreta”), and foreign volunteer insignia. Produced in embroidered, printed, or machine-woven formats—most notably by BeVo Wuppertal—these insignia combined functionality with symbolism. As the war progressed, materials and production methods became more simplified, but sleeve insignia remained a vital aspect of German military uniform tradition and are now highly sought after by collectors.
