Product Description: This is an early SA (Sturmabteilung) “Hochland” Edelweiss Badge, produced in aluminum and featuring a finely detailed Edelweiss flower with a central enameled swastika. The enamel remains bright and undamaged, showing only the faintest traces of age. The aluminum petals retain their crisp definition and subtle toning, characteristic of early pre-RZM manufacture.
Historical Description: During World War II, German sleeve insignia served as key identifiers of unit affiliation, specialization, and honors across the Wehrmacht, Waffen-SS, and other military organizations. Worn on the upper or lower sleeves of uniforms, these patches included branch insignia like the Gebirgsjäger Edelweiss, specialist trade badges, campaign cuff titles (e.g., “Afrika,” “Kreta”), and foreign volunteer insignia. Produced in embroidered, printed, or machine-woven formats—most notably by BeVo Wuppertal—these insignia combined functionality with symbolism. As the war progressed, materials and production methods became more simplified, but sleeve insignia remained a vital aspect of German military uniform tradition and are now highly sought after by collectors.
