Product Description:  A scarce and desirable early issue of the Order of the Red Banner of the USSR, Type 1, Variant 3, bearing low serial number 16071. Award comes with researched award documents from 1996 showing it was awarded to Ivan Alexeevich Milostivenko and awarded on December 21, 1941.  This variant, produced in the early 1930s, features the original screwback design with a silver base, red enamel banner inscribed “Proletarians of All Countries, Unite!”, and prominent hammer and sickle over a gold star. Variant 3 is among the less common early production types. This example remains in very good condition, with strong details, intact enamel, and only minor signs of age-related wear. The screwback disc is original and fully functional. Early Type 1 awards such as this are increasingly difficult to find and represent an important era in Soviet military history.

Historical Description: The Order of the Red Banner, established in 1924 (and originally by the RSFSR in 1918), was one of the Soviet Union’s earliest and most prestigious military decorations, awarded for exceptional bravery, leadership, and service in combat. Bestowed upon members of the Red Army, Navy, security forces, and occasionally civilians or foreign allies, it became a symbol of revolutionary valor and loyalty to the Soviet state. The design features a red enameled banner with the motto “Proletarians of All Countries, Unite!” above a hammer and sickle, gold star, and wreath motif. Widely awarded during the Great Patriotic War, the order remains a significant emblem of Soviet military honor and ideological commitment.
