Product Description: This is a single Officer SD/Schutzmannschaften Officer Slip-on Shoulder Board board worn by an officer of the Sicherheitsdienst (SD) or Schutzmannschaften, a rare and often overlooked branch within the broader SS and auxiliary police structure. The board is beautifully constructed with interwoven bullion thread, featuring a finely executed bullion swastika emblem at its center, signifying political authority and rank.

The edge of the board is adorned with silver bullion tresse, still bright and clean, forming a striking border around the black wool base. The reverse retains a portion of the original attachment button, and there are no signs of mothing, fading, or discoloration—remarkable for a piece of this type and age. The board remains in excellent plus condition, exhibiting only the most minimal handling wear, and would make an important addition to any SS or collaboration forces display.

Historical Description: The Schutzmannschaft (or Schuma) was an auxiliary police force established by SS leader Heinrich Himmler on July 25, 1941, to support German occupation efforts in the Soviet Union and Baltic states. Although officially subordinated to the Ordnungspolizei (Order Police), the Schutzmannschaft operated under the broader authority of the SS and played a key role in enforcing Nazi control in the East.

These units worked closely with SS and security police forces, often participating in anti-partisan operations and population control. Many battalions were directly involved in the Holocaust, assisting the Einsatzgruppen with mass shootings, roundups, and deportations of Jews. In some instances, such as the Schutzmannschaft-Brigade Siegling, personnel from the SS and Security Police were integrated into the Schutzmannschaft and later absorbed into the Waffen-SS.

While formed as a policing entity, the Schutzmannschaft functioned as an arm of the SS security apparatus, contributing significantly to Nazi occupation policies and atrocities in Eastern Europe.
