Product Description:
This is a scarce and desirable original Luftschutz Crowd Control Armband – Stamped , issued to personnel of the Reichsluftschutzbund (RLB), or National Air Raid Protection League, during the Third Reich era. These armbands were worn by designated crowd control personnel, or Ordner, and are rarely encountered in such well-preserved condition.
Constructed of a fine quality, lightweight blue cotton fabric, this example features a bold, white machine-woven “O” centrally positioned to denote the role of Ordner. The white emblem remains bright, with just minimal age toning from years of careful storage. A distinct blue ink maker’s stamp reading “A. Kraus” is diagonally applied across the front of the “O,” adding further character to the piece. The reverse reveals the typical mirrored appearance of the insignia—standard for cotton-woven examples.
This Luftschutz Crowd Control Armband remains sewn together at the rear, just as it would have been issued, with no modern alterations. The fabric is crisp and retains strong original color. There are no holes, rips, or repairs, and only the most minor soiling to the white portion is visible—entirely consistent with age and long-term storage.
Overall, this is an excellent plus example of a wartime-issued Luftschutz Crowd Control Armband —an increasingly difficult item to find in such complete and appealing condition. An ideal addition to any serious collection of WWII German home-front or civil defense memorabilia.
Historical Description: Nearly every military, civil, political and paramilitary organization in existence during the Third Reich used armbands. Armbands were worn on military and civilian uniforms and also on civilian clothes, from suit jackets to work clothing. They were used to denote membership in organizations, to indicate a specific role or function of the bearer, and as insignia of rank. Many organizations would change the design of their armbands over time, which added to the variety produced. These were manufactured in countless variations, ranging from simple printed bands to elaborately hand-embroidered pieces of the highest quality. Some Nazi armbands were worn by all members of large organizations and were made by the millions. Others were intended for use at a specific time and place and were unique. Many types were made in very limited numbers. Some bore metal insignia or special identifiers that indicated the wearer’s rank, unit affiliation, or nationality. Armbands were sometimes but not always marked with ink stamps by the issuing authorities.
