Product Description: This is a single Waffen-SS LAH Cypher Slip-On, worn by members of the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler (LSSAH). Constructed of black wool, this cypher is finely embroidered with the distinctive “LAH” monogram, representing one of the most elite formations of the Waffen-SS. The wool backing has nicely toned with age, and the piece remains in excellent condition, showing only minor wear consistent with period use. These Waffen-SS LAH Cypher Slip-On were attached to the shoulder boards of LSSAH members, signifying their affiliation with Hitler’s personal bodyguard division.
Historical Description: The Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler (LSSAH) was originally formed in 1933 as Hitler’s personal bodyguard unit and later expanded into a full-fledged Waffen-SS division. As one of the most elite and well-equipped units of the Third Reich, the LSSAH participated in major military campaigns, including the invasions of Poland, France, the Balkans, and the Eastern Front.
Uniform distinctions were an important aspect of Waffen-SS units, and LSSAH personnel wore special slip-on cyphers bearing the “LAH” monogram on their shoulder boards. These cyphers helped distinguish them from other Waffen-SS formations. The design varied slightly over time, with some being embroidered in silver thread for officers and others in white or gray thread for enlisted men.
Due to the elite status and historical significance of the LSSAH, original insignia such as these slip-on cyphers are highly sought after by collectors of Third Reich militaria.
