Product Description: This WWI Transitional Heer Helmet is in excellent condition, showcasing the iconic design used during the transition from Imperial German to Weimar Republic military forces. The helmet retains its original field-grey paint finish, showing only minimal wear consistent with age. The leather liner is fully intact, supple, and complete, with no tears or significant damage. The original leather chin strap is present and functional, a rare feature on helmets from this era. The exterior shell is free from dents or cracks, and the helmet’s overall condition makes it an outstanding example for collectors of WWI or interwar period militaria.

Historical Description: Following the end of World War I, the newly formed Reichswehr repurposed leftover Imperial German M16, M17, and M18 helmets for continued military use during the interwar period. These helmets were modified with features such as new liners, updated chin straps, and repainted exteriors to meet the evolving standards of the Heer (Army). Known as transitional helmets, they bridged the gap between WWI designs and the development of the M35 Stahlhelm, which would become the standard for the Wehrmacht in World War II. These helmets symbolize the tumultuous shift from the Imperial German Army to the Weimar Republic’s Reichswehr, reflecting both resourcefulness and continuity in German military history.
