Historical Description: German ID discs were issued to all Wehrmacht personnel during World War II as a means of identifying soldiers in the field. These tags included critical information such as the soldier’s name, unit, and blood type, enabling efficient record-keeping and notification in the event of death or injury. The design allowed for one half of the tag to remain with the body while the other half was collected for administrative purposes. This practice became a key part of military protocol during the war and highlights the emphasis on organization and identification within the German armed forces.
