German Veteran’s Kyffhäuserbund Armband

Product Description: This is a scarce and desirable German Veteran’s Kyffhäuserbund Armband for a board member of a local chapter of the “N.S.-Reichskriegerbund Kyffhäuser E.D.,” a German organization for war veterans. It features a Bevo machine-woven patch with the 1937-43 pattern NS-RKB emblem (an Iron Cross with Nazi swastika, on a red shield), machine stitched to a blue wool fabric armband. Behind this Bevo patch, and running the length of the armband, is a strip of silver wire rank Tresse, indicating the leadership position of “Beirat” in the Kyffhäuserbund organization. Sewn on top is a veteran’s cap insignia. The armband has been worn and shows some honest wear and age, with one moth hole to the blue wool. On the side, a button hole that has been reinforced stitched. The colors remain nice and bright, with only sight age toning to the Bevo organizational emblem. On the back, the seams come together with three snaps. This is a great representative example of a scarce type of German Veteran’s Kyffhäuserbund Armband in an excellent plus condition.

Historical Description: Nearly every military, civil, political, and paramilitary organization in existence during the Third Reich used armbands. Armbands were worn on military and civilian uniforms and also on civilian clothes, from suit jackets to work clothing. They were used to denote membership in organizations, to indicate a specific role or function of the bearer, and as insignia of rank. Many organizations would change the design of their armbands over time, which added to the variety produced. These were manufactured in countless variations, ranging from simple printed bands to elaborately hand-embroidered pieces of the highest quality. Some Nazi armbands were worn by all members of large organizations and were made by the millions. Others were intended for use at a specific time and place and were unique. Many types were made in very limited numbers. Some bore metal insignia or special identifiers that indicated the wearer’s rank, unit affiliation, or nationality. Armbands were sometimes but not always marked with ink stamps by the issuing authorities.
